Antec Skeleton PC Case

Although it appears as though the Antec Skeleton is capable of take off, or cooling the engine of a Ford Mustang GT, it’s in fact a PC Case. Mounted on the top is a 250mm fan with multicolor LEDs, and if that doesn’t keep your home made PC cool, it’s backed by a 92mm hard driving cooling fan. There’s certainly no promises of a silent or dust free operation, though.

iriver Mplayer Eyes - Weirdest MP3 Player Ever?

I've tried to ignore this player when it was announced a couple of weeks ago, but the sheer weirdness of the player itself and some accessories revealed today certainly calls for a quick mention. If you remember the first gen Mplayer it was already somewhat of a peculiar MP3 player where the Mickey Mouse design was the focus. The player now got an update called the Mplayer Eyes which have LEDs that light up in various facial expressions. Pretty much any smiley you can make with text symbols the Eyes seem to be able to replicate.

If that wasn't weird enough for you, a Korean company has now released a dock for the device that is shaped like Mickey's body. This combo is by far the weirdest MP3 player I've seen and that says something. While the specs aren't too great for the Eyes with 1 or 2GB memory and 10 hours of battery, the novelty value is certainly through the roof. Hit the jump for a few more pics

I’m no stranger to furniture made from recyclables. After all, I write about it all the time and I just so happen to sit on my ass for the same duration. Upon seeing Ryan Frank’s design, pictured above, I immediately thought of how comfortable it would be to pass gas while sitting in it. Well, more comfortable than doing so in a chair made from a tire or a wooden stump .

I mean, this thing is made entirely of used plastic bags. The seat itself is made from recycled aluminum, but the plastic bags are what give the chair character. Break wind while sitting in this thing and you’ll float away in more ways than one.

Nintendo Locks Down the DSi

Just when the rest of the gaming world seemed bent on going region free, Nintendo has done the unthinkable and region locked their latest incarnation of the DS, the DSi. As pointed out by Gizmodo, this kills the import market, but you have to wonder if it isn’t going to hurt them in the end and give modchip makers something to really smile about. My guess is that it won’t be long before a hardware workaround finds its way to market.

Pesquisadores do College of Engineering da Unversidade de Boston estão desenvolvendo uma nova tecnologia baseada em LEDs para substituir a tecnologia Wi-Fi.

A nova tecnologia, batizada de Smart Lighting , envia dados usando luz em vez de ondas de rádio. A Smart Lighting funciona com lâmpadas LED “smart lights” que piscam em taxas altas e imperceptíveis e assim transmitem dados para toda a área dentro do escritório/casa. Os pesquisadores acreditam que as taxas de transferência iniciais serão de 1Mb a 10Mb por segundo. Muito interessante!

Popular Mechanics offers preview of Singapore's TechX robot challenge

We haven't heard a whole lot about Singapore's DARPA-esque TechX robot challenge since it first kicked off early last year, but with the final round getting underway on Sunday, Popular Mechanics has now thankfully offered up a preview of what's in store. Among those set to compete is the so-called Uni-Seeker bot (pictured above) from Nanyang Technological University, which is a heavily modded incarnation of iRobot's ATRV Junior robot, and one of only six bots that managed to make it through all the qualifying rounds. Others include the considerably more intimidating AZROBOWAR Sharp Shooter, built completely from scratch, and a pair of robots built on iRobot's popular PackBot platform. From the looks of it, they'll each have their work cut out for them in the big event, with them required to start outside and navigate their way inside a building, then climb a flight of stairs, travel up an elevator, touch a few targets, and then exit the building again -- without any human intervention, and in less than an hour. That $700,000 prize should provide plenty of motivation, though.

In the run-up to Photokina, Olympus just announced its latest Four Thirds DSLR targeting the "advanced amateur." Positioned in the enormous gap between Olympus' flagship E-3 and E-520 shooters, the new E-A1 DSLR inherits the E-3's high-speed 11-point AF system, image stabilization with 5 stops correction, while featuring improved weather sealing around a housing we expect to be relatively compact by comparison. Available in Q1 2009 if things stay on track.

As co-consprirators with Panasonic behind the Micro Four Thirds format, it's no surprise to hear that Olympus also has a tiny, mirror-less prototype camera to show off at Photokina as well. The only surprise is that it'll be on display under glass without a date, specs, or price.

Cars, especially older ones, don’t always have a convenient spot to put your cell phone and I’ve never been a fan of leaving it in my pocket while driving. Yes, you could slip it into your cupholder, but it’s not quite in the line of sight and that means your drink can’t go there. Which could be catastrophic for those in dire need of caffeine and are unwilling to hold it between their legs. Well with this little cell phone holder your phone will always be at the ideal spot for you.

It has adhesive backing so you can stick it to any random surface you like. It will work with some slim cell phones, and since it is made of soft material you don’t have to worry about it scratching up your phone. I found out a couple of years ago that I didn’t have a 20/20 vision anymore. That’s when I started to use glasses when working or playing on the PC. Well, I’m supposed to wear my glasses all the time, but I only use them with the PC. I just found out that there are special computer glasses for gamers, so I might want to leave those general purpose one for everyday use and get a pair of these special ones.

Gunnar Optiks are is a renowned company specializing in computer-related eyewear. Slashgear informs that their latest array of glasses targets the hardcore gamers and comes in a pretty sleek design. The glasses come with custom lenses that are to reduce eyestrain. The special glasses still retains the technology found in the previous computer-related eyewear, but now they’ve added a special design which allows gamers to use them together with headphones.

In case you feel your eyes don’t serve you as well as they should, then you could go for a pair pf these. However, if the glasses still don’t perform any miracles on your eyes, then you should consider playing less on the PC. No price and availability info for now.

Olympic Gadget Will Help You Find Stuff In China

A new mobile application under development by Germany's Fraunhofer Institute called COMPASS 2008 will be rolled out at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China. COMPASS helps you finds things when you're in a FOREIGN COUNTRY. For example, when you want food, you just click on the food button. The software uses the GPS in your phone to figure out where you are, and checks nearby restaurants against what it knows about your preferences. (Hopefully you like Chinese food.) Once in the restaurant, you can write what you want in English, and COMPASS will translate it into Mandarin, or whatever the local language is, both spoken and written. COMPASS 2008 has already been successfully tested in China.

Male Geeks Finally Get Robot Girlfriends

“She’s very lovable and though she’s not a human, she can act like a real girlfriend.”

After years of Sci-Fi films where technology has advanced enough to satisfy our need for love and sex, we are finally starting to see the fantasy become a reality with the release of Japan’s robotic girlfriend.

EMA, Eternal Maiden Actualization, produced by Sega Toys, is 15 inches tall and kisses on command, which is a lot better than the recent release of cell phone robotic friends. “Strong, tough and battle-ready are some of the words often associated with robots, but we wanted to break that stereotype and provide a robot that’s sweet and interactive,” said Minako Sakanoue, a spokeswoman for the maker, Sega Toys.

Using herinfrared sensors and battery power, the EMA enters into a sort of “love mode” and will pucker up to kiss any nearby human heads. She can also walk and dance when in the presence of another human being. The EMA robot will go on sale in September for around $175 and will be targeted towards lonely adult men. Sega is hoping to sell over 10,000 units in the first year. It is shocking, with the amount of full size robots being developed and how real looking the romantic dolls are, that they did not create a larger and more life-like version than they did. I guess they figure if they could afford to pay for a life size one, then they probably don’t need it.

Robotic Cell Phone Friends

Japan, known for their advanced cell phone technologies, has come out with a new advancement that will allow you to truly call your phone a friend.

In April 2008, Softbank Mobile Corp, a Japanese company, will release the PhoneBraver, which is a new type of cell phone that doubles as a little robotic friend, ready to chat. Simply attach it’s little arms and leg to your phone and it will display various different faces on the phone.

PhoneBraver, cannot actually move, but can learn habits and display text messages to you when you make certain actions on the phone.

If you were to call someone on a regular basis, the phone might display a message coming out of the robots mouth saying, “You’re calling her often these days, aren’t you?” Users could carry on the the conversation with their robot friend by answering it’s questions and comments.

“We haven’t decided on specifics yet on the communication between the user and mobile, but your mobile would grow into a buddy different from others that is unique in the world,” he said.

The phone was made after a character in an upcoming television drama called “Cellphone Investigator 7″

The price for your own robotic phone has not yet been released but we can imagine it will be costly.
